The last night of JCX on campus @YCC took place Tuesday night. Some highlights please:
-Night started with the “State of the Youthion Address”. I dressed up in the suit and tie, which Gil said “looks stupid” and delivered a speech on why we gather together and our hope for each youth in this community. The speech, which focused on grace, mercy and peace, opened up with this vid put together by Matt:
-We worshipped through song in a different way last night. Matt, Josh, Talicia and Jacob played an acoustical set with some fancy drums and all. They blew us away and we sang with some passion!!
-Woody brought the heat with the teaching. He was very authentic with us and shared some personal stories that helped the teaching click. His focus was out of Romans 7 (good stuff, check it out). Best line of the night (my paraphrase): “God considers you worthy of the struggle. And if you’re struggling with sin, that’s a great indication that you are not a slave to it.” Beautiful job Woody!
-As a “moment we didn’t expect” Captain Ron followed up the teaching with a great thought about what was going through Paul’s head when he wrote the stuff we just went through. Ron closed his thought with “Carrie Underwood has it right, Jesus take the wheel.” Chessy? Yes! But a classic Ron moment. As the youth left for D-groups, we played that very song. It turned into a spontaneous “American Idol” moment as everyone stopped and sang.
-Great way to end the year! Next week our D-groups celebrate together off campus. Then we don’t meet on Tuesday again until 2010.
-Praying for Winter Camp. Good stuff planned. Hope you’re coming!
