Confessions

About a month ago, we borrowed (stole) the Kickball trophy from First Baptist Church. It was sitting out without protection and looked very lonely so I picked it up and brought it home with me. After much contemplation, we aren’t giving it back! We decide to take it a step further and take some photos with it. So FBCY … say hi to your precious trophy here:

Winter Camp

There is this thing called winter camp that comes every January @JCX. We don’t do camp like many others do camp. We create everything from scratch. From what we discuss to the everyday activities, it all comes from the crazy brains of our youth staff. It’s one of the best “together events” we do @JCX. What to expect: opportunities to connect with new faces and familiar ones, a chance to learn and develop your faith in Jesus, a chance to learn and trust those around you and a place to get away.

We hope you or your teen can join us for this weekend in January. The dates are the 15th – 18th (Friday-Monday). The cost is $180 ($100 deposit holds your spot). You’ll need a medical release form from YCC. Talk with Mike, Talicia or your D-group leader about payment plans or any questions that you may have about camp.

Praying for you today! Grace, mercy and peace!

JCX Tuesday 12/8/09

The last night of JCX on campus @YCC took place Tuesday night. Some highlights please:

-Night started with the “State of the Youthion Address”. I dressed up in the suit and tie, which Gil said “looks stupid” and delivered a speech on why we gather together and our hope for each youth in this community. The speech, which focused on grace, mercy and peace, opened up with this vid put together by Matt:

-We worshipped through song in a different way last night. Matt, Josh, Talicia and Jacob played an acoustical set with some fancy drums and all. They blew us away and we sang with some passion!!
-Woody brought the heat with the teaching. He was very authentic with us and shared some personal stories that helped the teaching click. His focus was out of Romans 7 (good stuff, check it out). Best line of the night (my paraphrase): “God considers you worthy of the struggle. And if you’re struggling with sin, that’s a great indication that you are not a slave to it.” Beautiful job Woody!
-As a “moment we didn’t expect” Captain Ron followed up the teaching with a great thought about what was going through Paul’s head when he wrote the stuff we just went through. Ron closed his thought with “Carrie Underwood has it right, Jesus take the wheel.” Chessy? Yes! But a classic Ron moment. As the youth left for D-groups, we played that very song. It turned into a spontaneous “American Idol” moment as everyone stopped and sang.
-Great way to end the year! Next week our D-groups celebrate together off campus. Then we don’t meet on Tuesday again until 2010.
-Praying for Winter Camp. Good stuff planned. Hope you’re coming!

JCX Tuesday 12/01/09

Ever had to do something that you really hate doing but it was the right thing and you had to do it anyway? That happened to me at JCX Tuesday night. The good thing though, standing up for those who want to grow in their love for Jesus Christ. I’m so thankful for them and the commitment they have to life and to others because they love their Savior and know he loves them.

We had some great discussion last night. We split the room into 8 sections and had altar time. A time where we can talk intimately about the junk we carry around, about the hope we have to change and to move towards the loving relationship that God offers through his Son Jesus.

We also spent some time walking through Matthew 6 together. Each group sat face to face with each other shared their thoughts on what they read. Here’s the video:

Winter Camp is so close! We want you to go and we will make room so you can. You interested? January 15th – 18th in Lake Arrowhead. Cost is $180 with a $100 deposit. Just don’t be this guy:

Love ya … hope to see ya Sunday morning @ 8:45am in GFC for JCX.
